
DB 20s/30s Costa Rica Getaway

Event Description:
Come join us for an unforgettable getaway in Costa Rica with other Christian Scientists and their friends! Together, we’ll explore lush lowland rainforests with the chance to spot exotic birds, monkeys, sloths, and more. We’ll hike to the top of Poás Volcano, visit the breathtaking La Fortuna Waterfall, zipline through the rainforest canopy, swim in natural waters, and more. Also, enjoy meaningful conversations and inspiration throughout the trip. You won’t want to miss this amazing trip!

Registration:
Space is limited, and on a first come, first serve basis. We have the capacity to offer this trip to up to 17 participants. Registration will close May 6 or until full. Registration will open on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 9:30 AM MT.
Cost:
Registration is $1,880 with a $480 non-refundable deposit paid with a debit/credit card to secure your spot. Full payment is due June 10, 2026.
Cost Includes:
- Airport transfers in Costa Rica (arrival & departure)
- Ground transportation throughout the trip
- Accommodations for 7 nights (double occupancy)
- DB Staff & Professional local guide(s)
- Gratuities for guide and drivers
- Practitioner support & Inspirational Talk (remote)
- Breakfast, lunch & dinner daily while touring (starting with breakfast on day 2 and ending with breakfast on day 8)
- All activities and entrance fees (*additional cost for optional activities on day 6)
Cost Excludes:
- International airfare to and from San José, Costa Rica
- Optional excursion fees & potential travel to/from
- Personal expenses (laundry, travel insurance, snacks, activities, keepsakes, etc.)
- Meals on day 1 and lunch/dinner on day 8
- Travel insurance
We recommend that you purchase personal travel insurance for this trip. If you have special dietary requirements beyond being a vegetarian, you’ll need to bring what you need with you. The food provided will be simple, so if you have specific food/snack choices, feel free to pack foods you like.
Financial Aid, Payment & Cancellation Policy:
Financial aid requests must be submitted by: April 10, 2026. Financial aid submitted after April 10 is subject to the DB Cancellation Policy.
Financial aid is available on a need-based basis, offering up to $300 toward registration and up to $150 toward travel expenses.
If the awarded amount does not fully meet your financial needs for this event and you decide to cancel your registration, please notify us at dbinfo@discoverybound.blackbaudwp.com within 48 hours of receiving your financial aid notification. If you cancel, your deposit will be refunded, minus a $25 cancellation fee.

Travel Documents:
A passport is required for all travelers and should be valid for at least six months beyond the dates of the trip. Please send Shelby Mehring a photocopy of your passport once you have registered for the trip.
Travel:
Arrival (August 15, 2026)
Fly into San José International Airport (SJO) and transfer to the hotel. Please plan to arrive in the afternoon so we can gather as a group that evening before the trip begins.
Departure (August 22, 2026)
Fly out of San José International Airport (SJO). An airport shuttle may be available; additional details to come. Please plan to depart after breakfast.
Tentative Itinerary:
August 15 / Day 1 – Depart to Costa Rica
Fly into San Jose International Airport (SJO) and transfer to the hotel. Please plan to arrive in the afternoon so we can gather as a group that evening before the trip begins
August 16 / Day 2 – The Lowland Rainforest
Our guide will take us to the top of the Poás Volcano to explore the geologic formation that forms the spine of Costa Rica. Later, we will travel to the Sarapiqui region which is known for its off the beaten path vibe and lush and wild rainforest ecosystems. We will then check in to our beautiful ecolodge.
August 17 / Day 3 – Guided Rainforest Hike and Zipline Adventure
Explore one of the more pristine rainforest ecosystems in central America with a local guide as you look for exotic birds, monkeys, sloths and other fascinating wildlife and plants. That afternoon, fly high through the rainforest canopy via a multi-platform zipline. In the evening we will participate in a Latin Dance class.
August 18 / Day 4 – Sustainable Agriculture and Arenal Volcano
Tour a family operated ecological farm to see sustainable farming in action and enjoy making lunch with the local family with foods from the farm. In the afternoon, transfer to Arenal and see Arenal Volcano, hike to the splendid 70 meter La Fortuna waterfall, and swim in the resort’s hot springs.
August 19 / Day 5 – Pacific Coast
In the morning have some free time in the small resort town of La Fortuna before driving to the Central Pacific Coast. We will check in to our lodging and will have the rest of the day to explore the beautiful Esterillos beach.
August 20 / Day 6 – Central Pacific Coast and Manuel Antonio
Tour the 716-acre Manuel Antonio National Park – known for its dense jungle vegetation and abundant wildlife including monkeys. Then have a free afternoon to book your next adventure with options such as:
- Sea kayaking ($80 per person)
- Snorkeling ($80 per person)
- Horseback riding and Tocori Mountain and Waterfall ($95 per person)
- Spice Garden Chocolate Tour ($95 per person)
- Surfing lesson ($88 per person)
- Enjoy the stunning black sand beach and/or relax at our lodging (free)
August 21 / Day 7 – Return to San José
Enjoy more beach time before returning to San José. That afternoon you’ll have time to explore and souvenir shop at the Central Market. Then we will have a final farewell dinner.
August 22 / Day 8 – Return Home
Fly out of San José International Airport (SJO). Please plan to depart after breakfast.
